Overtourism enters the vocabulary. The word is coined and immediately used everywhere. Venice, Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Amsterdam and Kyoto all begin introducing measures to limit or manage visitor numbers. Venice’s resident population has by now fallen by roughly two-thirds since 1950.
