c. 100 AD

Roman roads make travel routine. The Roman road network reaches around 80,000km of paved highway with milestones, staging posts and inns. For the first time a private citizen can travel from Britain to Syria on a predictable schedule, and wealthy Romans begin taking holidays at Baiae on the Bay of Naples.
